George McKown was a close friend of Charles M. Russell who worked at the Como Company in Great Falls, Montana. Russell bought his artist supplies and had his pictures framed through Como. McKown was affectionately nicknamed ‘Bull Trout’ by Russell and was a pallbearer at Russell’s funeral. This letter depicts a grey-haired Russell in suit and hat watching bathers at the Santa Monica pier.
