The May 17, 1902 issue of Harper’s Weekly will accompany the lot.

Wild Range-Horses in the Corral was completed after Maynard Dixon visited the P Ranch in southeastern Oregon with his friend Edward Borein. The two took a trip on horseback from Oakland, California to Pocatello, Idaho. P Ranch was established by Peter French, and became headquarters for the French-Glenn Livestock Company, which eventually controlled over 140,000 acres. In 1935, the United States Government purchased the P Ranch property to add to an adjacent wildlife refuge. Today its few remaining structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
