In describing this painting the artist wrote, “Pacific Carriage Company was the predominate carriage company operating in San Francisco during the early 1900s. Their carriages provided luxury transportation throughout the city. The bowlered Irish hackman has given this Chinese mother, teenage daughter, and young son permission to inspect the carriage while he awaits his passengers.”
