Describing this painting the artist writes, “Where I live, this is a common scene. When the sun goes down most people go inside to relax for the day. For animals though, now is the time they feel safe enough to come out into the open to graze in the meadows. The does venture out first wary and alert. The buck is always last. I have always been drawn to the tonalists, and the twilight paintings of the Hudson River School artists such as Sanford Gifford and Frederic Church.”
