Signed, titled, and “#836”

A copy of a 1988 letter from the artist describing this painting will accompany the lot.

Describing this painting Elmer Kelton wrote, “Bright colors demonstrate the innate sense of pageantry in a Crow war party crossing one of the sparkling-clear shallow ponds that dot Beartooth Pass. A red square on his horse’s right shoulder identifies the leader. Artistic beadwork livens the buffalo headdress, the quivers, and a horse’s headpiece.”
