VERSO
Label, J. J. Gillespie & Co., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

In 1886, Raschen accompanied General Nelson A. Miles on the expedition that led to Geronimo’s capture. While Geronimo was imprisoned at Fort Sill, Raschen visited him, and the two became friends. Raschen is believed to be the only artist who painted Geronimo from life, creating several portraits of him and documenting Apache tribal life through his art.
